Hi, my name is Erin Clayton and I live in Saudi Arabia.

I’m a marketer by day and portrait photographer by night (and weekends).

The hardest things I had to do in 2014

I’d have to say the hardest choice I made in 2014 was deciding to resign from a job I loved because the 2-3 hour daily commute was creating too many negative consequences in my life. Commuting had made me anti-social, lethargic and lose all desire to be creative.

What I learnt from all this

This showed me how some life choices which may seem wise at the time come at a price that isn’t always immediately apparent. Gradual behavioural changes take time to notice and consequently longer to correct. I now know just how important “downtime” is for my well being.

Some accomplishments from 2014 that I’m proud of and happy about

Finding a job closer to home freed up so much more time to spend working on my real passion: photography.

The hours I had previously spent in a fit of road rage are now used more purposefully. I can now use my time to market my business and not feel as if I’m spreading myself too thin. Having more time, confidence and energy allowed me to double my session bookings in 2014.

If you are feeling down at this time of year, my tip is

Hands down, make exercise a part of your life. A really good workout/ yoga class/run can completely change your day and disposition for the better!

My intention for 2015 is to…

Take everything in stride. Tackle projects and small tasks as they come instead of delaying them until they build up and become bigger than they really are. Spend more time doing the things that add value and no time doing the things that don’t. Learn how to say no.
